Neil Gaiman is listed in the Dictionary of Literary Biography as one of the top ten living post-modern writers. His books are all highly acclaimed and have won many awards: American Gods won the Bram Stoker Award for best novel, the Nebula Award for best novel and the Hugo Award for Best Science Fiction/Fantasy Novel in 2002 and was a nominee for the BSFA award; Neverwhere won the Julia Verlanger award for best Fantasy/Science-Fiction Novel in 1999; Stardust won the Mythopoeic Best Novel for Adults award in 1999; Smoke and Mirrors won the MacMillan Silver PEN award for best Short Story Collection in 1998.
